How to detect the weight of PP spunbond non-woven fabric?

The core of weight testing for PP spunbond non-woven fabric is precise sampling, standardized weighing, and scientific judgment. The entire process has a low threshold for operation, and ordinary factories can complete it without the need for a professional laboratory. The specific steps are as follows:

1、 Prepare basic equipment

• Electronic balance with an accuracy of ≥ 0.01g
• Standard 100cm ² circular sampler (cutter diameter approximately 11.28cm)
• Samples with a complete width of ≥ 1.5m to be tested should avoid the defective sections of the joints at the beginning and end of the roll

2、 Standardize point sampling

• Single point sampling cannot represent the true level of the entire roll, and points must be arranged according to three-dimensional rules:
• Horizontal full coverage: Take 5-7 points evenly along the width from the left edge to the right edge, and sample separately in the edge, middle, and seam areas to cover the thickness difference area of the entire width.
• Vertical segmentation: Horizontal points are placed at the beginning, middle, and end of the coil to avoid abnormal areas such as opening stop sections and changing coil joints.
• Total sampling quantity: For regular orders, at least 10-20 standard samples should be taken, and for high demand orders, it can be increased to 30 to ensure that the data covers all areas of the entire roll.

3、 Weighing and Calculation

• Weigh all sampled samples uniformly on an electronic balance and record the total weight (unit: g, rounded to one decimal place).
• Substitute the formula to calculate the average weight:
• Average weight (g/㎡)=Total weight of sample ÷ Total sampling area of sample × 10000
• Taking 20 100cm ² samples as an example, with a total sampling area of 2000cm ², the results can be quickly obtained by directly multiplying the total weight by 5.

4、 Result judgment rules

• It is not enough to rely solely on single point data to determine whether the entire roll is qualified. The average value of all sampling points should be used as the core judgment basis.
• The weight tolerance for conventional civilian products is agreed to be ± 3%, while for medical grade products with high requirements, the tolerance should be tightened to ± 2%. Any deviation beyond this range is considered unqualified.
• The sampling points in the seam area of wide spliced products need to be separately verified, and the weight deviation at this location is usually greater than that in the main area, making it the most easily overlooked weak point.

5、Note: When testing laminated products, the PP film and adhesive layer on the surface should be peeled off first, and then the weight of the non-woven substrate should be tested separately to avoid interference from the weight of the laminated layer in the result judgment.
